Lab-Grown Diamonds: The Trend That’s Losing Its Sparkle
Shop Loose Diamonds

About  Difference…

Does it really matter?

Lab-grown diamonds have been making waves in the jewelry industry, often marketed as the “affordable” and “ethical” alternative to natural diamonds. But before you jump on the bandwagon, let’s take a closer look at the reality behind these manufactured stones.

By Angelique Gous

1. The Shocking Decline in Value 💸

If you think lab-grown diamonds hold their value over time, think again. Their prices drop month after month, making them one of the worst investments in fine jewelry. What you buy today at a premium might be worth a fraction of that in just a few months. Meanwhile, natural diamonds have always held intrinsic value, making them a timeless asset.

2. The Price Markups Are (Almost) a Scam 🏷️

Retailers love selling lab-grown diamonds because they come with massive markups—often as high as 1,000% or more! The production cost of lab-grown stones is low, but the prices you see in stores are often bloated to trick buyers into thinking they’re getting a high-value item. Many would argue that this kind of pricing is borderline fraudulent, especially since the resale value is next to nothing.

3. A Lab-Grown Diamond Costs Less Than a GIA Certification 📜

Here’s a jaw-dropping fact: The cost of certifying a natural diamond at GIA (Gemological Institute of America) is more expensive than buying an actual lab-grown diamond. That alone should tell you everything you need to know about their true worth. If a product costs less than a certification, how valuable can it really be?

4. No Resale, No Upgrade – Just a Bad Investment 📉

Thinking of upgrading or reselling your lab-grown diamond in the future? Good luck. The reality is that secondary markets see lab-grown diamonds as scrap or “fake stones,” with little to no demand. Natural diamonds, on the other hand, will always retain some value—whether you’re looking to trade up or pass it down through generations.

The Bottom Line: Choose Wisely 💎

Lab-grown diamonds might seem appealing at first glance, but their depreciation, inflated pricing, lack of resale value, and questionable investment potential make them a risky choice. If you want something truly valuable—something that holds both emotional and financial worth—natural diamonds remain the undisputed champion.
